Why This Room Caught My Eye

Hello to my new Tuesday blog series 'Why This Room Caught My Eye'. I started last week and hope you will enjoy my little observations on interior design every Tuesday. It so happens that my eye got caught once again by a remarkable example of kitchen design. Actually, it is a little corner of a kitchen. But this corner is so exquisitely styled, that I've picked this example to tell you what caught my eye.

Three factors got me hooked on this kitchen:

  • Green Colour Coding: The green colour code is a fabulous example how one statement colour can draw the eye's attention to a certain room. A playful yet moderate use of decorative green decorative elements adds a great flavour to this kitchen.
  • Simple, white tiles: The simple, old white tiles make the perfect backdrop to make the colour coding and the vintage oven pop. Use white to add visual highlights that catch the beholder's eye!
  • Vintage Oven: This tiled vintage oven with a weathered top and fronts - no words needed to say why it caught my eye!

  • I hope you liked this room as much as I did. Is there anything that you liked or disliked in particular here? Let me know!

    1. Oh.. I remember when my grandmother had the same oven :) for me it looks nice and stylish, but I am not sure, if vintage oven is functional? In my opinion it is hard to keep it clean. That space has its own charakter :)

      1. I agree with you! I think the vintage oven is here merely for decorative purposes - I can spot a 'normal' stove/oven just on the right edge of the pic:-)

    3. I can see exactly what caught your eye as did mine when I saw the pictures. I loved it best for its simplicity and lack of fussiness. I think the one colour theme set against white tiles is great and could work well with any strong colour.
You can't beat white tiles in the kitchen, as I love a kitchen to look clean. Of course if it’s a dirty kitchen, it will show so I find white tiles in the kitchen very reassuring, I would like to think people that come to my home would have the same feeling.
As for the oven, it’s wonderful; I can almost smell the bread. So it would appear that Tuesdays may well be a good day to tune in to your blog as if this is anything to go by, then we should be enjoying some neat features from you.
Slightly off topic, I enjoyed your previous piece about Fuerteventura. It looks really beautiful. I have been nearby to Tenerife and loved it there. Sadly I never got to see as much as I would've liked as I was caring for my since departed mother at the time, but always vowed to go back.

      1. Jaime, thank you so much for your detailed and great comment! I enjoyed it very much! And I do hope you will come back to Happy Interior Blog - I am loving every reader and happy guest! As for the Canaries, I think there is so much to discover there. It was my first time there but I might have to go back one day, too. There will be more posts on my trip over the coming weeks.

    4. I love everything you pointed out in this kitchen (+ extra love for the oven which reminds me of my grandmother's). In addition, I like how they used the half tiled wall as sort of a shelf.
I also love the mortar and pestle, I've got one almost like that...:) http://www.cuvintesiculori.com/2012/03/vechiturile-mele.html

    6. Love those simple whites, but I'm not a big fan of these marble beige/pink tiles on the right. The detail of the vintage oven, even though it's for styling purposes only, adds a lovely twist. I wouldn't mind a few cucumbers in the styling of this picture (as a reference to the calendar). Happy wednesday!

    8. great inspiration kitchen. Love the honest, authentic feel of the space ... many lovely home cooked meals have been prepared from this kitchen. Well, at least that's how it feels to me! Love the Green accent as well ... perfect shade of green for me. Not too Kelly Green and not too minty!
