Plant Of The Month: Chrysanthemum

Today I am sharing the third and last part of my bilingual mini-series 'Plant of the Month' in collaboration with Pflanzenfreude.de. The plant of the month October is a cheerful indoor and outdoor companion, a perfect matchmaker for lovers of green houseplants and colourful blooms: the Chrysanthemums

When I got my potted Chrysanthemums it made me smile instantly. Those happy little blooms, tightly snuggled together brought a touch of springtime into this autumn month. That is why the Chrysanthemums are so special: they are blooming now in all sorts of colours and bloom sizes. Thus, they are the perfect plant to cheer up the gloomy and colder autumn days. I had to make myself a fresh coffee and enjoy that moment with my new plant.

Even those doubting their so-called 'green thumb' can be completely reassured: Chrysanthemums require a minimum of care. A little bit of water and a sunny, not too hot place are all they want. But as usual I have prepared a little cheat sheet with care tips for Chrysanthemums at your home. Oh, and don't miss the charming and fun little video about the 'Plant of the Month'. And now it's your turn: add some blooming colour to your home too!

Welcoming Spring With Anemones

I can't believe myself that I am writing about welcoming spring on February 27th! But it's not my fault - it's the sunny and super mild weather that makes me think of spring. Trees are burgeoning, snowdrops and crocuses are popping up on every green patch and the markets are awash with colorful blooms. Plus it came in pretty handy that the famous #2flowergirls Elodie and Inga were back this month with a floral topic - anemones.

This said, I rushed to the local farmers market and bought a small bunch of anemones. I think they are so beautiful themselves that I didn't feel any need to do additional styling around them. I've just put them in my concrete vase from Bolia and voilà, spring has not only sprung but also moved into my apartment.

Happy Thursday everyone!

Happy Guest: A Happy Bouquet Of Flowers

Hello! My name is Elodie from Madame Love Blog and today I have prepared a little happy bouquet with seasonal and locally grown flowers from the Hamburg region - from Mrs. Love to Mr. Happy.

I am so glad to be a guest on Igor's blog today. I truly love his blog and the search for happiness in home design as a leitmotif.

I know that Igor likes flowers and especially wild and colourful ones as well as a bit of a French touch / so I tried to compose a happy bouquet for him today with poppies, daisies and cornflowers to give you the feeling of being in the French countryside on the side of a cornfield in the middle of July.

I displayed them in a bright yellow watering can. This can made me instantly think of Igor when I saw it.

I wish you a wonderful holiday my friend and a wonderful day dear readers!

xxx, Elodie

Joining The #2Flowergirls - With Garden Roses

There will be two groups of readers today - the ones who know about the #2Flowergirls and the others who don't know anything about this fun monthly blog series. Actually, the two flowergirls are my friends and floral bloggers Elodie and Inga and they joined forces a few months ago and created a monthly series called #2Flowergirls with a changing floral topic. Each month is dedicated to a certain flower and bloggers are invited to join the fun with their interpretation. July is the month of the fragrant garden rose. And it is the first time I am properly joining this series as a 'flowerboy' with a happy interpretation of garden roses.

As usual I am juggling too many projects simultaneously, so when I decided to join in the flower fun I just had to think of ways to raise my efficiency. It was two days ago that I had an invitation to a blogger event here in Munich (I will blog about that soon) and I was asked to bring along some props for shelf styling. Since I was working all day in the office, the only thing I brought along from home was my favorite vase from Paris. On the rush from the office to the event location I stopped at the florist's and spotted the very last bunch of delicate garden roses. It was then when the efficiency thought clicked - bunch bought, styled up with some borrowed props at the blogger event and afterwards I snapped some more pictures for today's post. Voilà - this is not only a floral post, but also an efficiency post:-)

I hope you like my flower interpretation with a French vibe here. Let me know your thoughts! More roses on the #2Flowergirls Pinterest board HERE.

Happy Thursday!

Ideas For A Happy Weekend

It's all about 'flower power' this weekend! One of the things that I love to do on weekends, is getting a fresh bunch of flower to inaugurate the weekend in a bloomy mood. I always feel so inspired when I'm reading two of my favorite flower blogs - 'Madame Love' and 'Glomerylane' - and I immediately want to run out, go to the market and buy a fresh blooms to decorate my home.

This week I was totally smitten and happy when a voluptuous bunch of red blooms arrived by mail at my home. It was a surprise delivery from the new flower subscription service 'Bloomy Days' here in Germany (by the way, also one of my 'Happy Sponsors'). How cool is it to get fresh blooms delivered every week to your door? And the fun fact: You ever know what to expect, every week you are surprised by a new selection of fresh and seasonal flowers.

So, I swiftly opened the cardboard box and discovered a lush bunch of red blooms - deep red peonies accompanied by velvety roses and ambrosial sweet williams. I loved the fact that the blooms were ready made for a vase, freshly cut and all leaves from the lower part of the stems have been removed. I placed them in a simple vase and now my entire apartment smells like a symphony from a botanical garden. Now isn't this a bloomy start into the weekend? Will you get some fresh flowers this weekend?

Why This Room Caught My Eye

Hello my friends! I am back after a wonderful weekend getaway to a quaint little German town and a busy Monday full of interviews - yesterday I gave my first radio interview to the German national broadcaster WDR. You can here me speak HERE (in German) and I must admit - I loved it! Radio is fun. But I digress. Let's get back to Tuesday eye candy and my regular column entitled 'Why This Room Caught My Eye'.

Well just look at this fabulous picture! It is a detail shot with a close angle from what could be a dining room or a kitchen. It combines so many beautiful details and styles that it naturally caught my eye. But let's structure it a bit:
  • Personal Gallery: I absolutely love the idea of a personal gallery that can be changed from time to time. This is the ideal way of exposing your latest flea market finds, heirloom pieces, recent buys.
  • Fresh Blooms: Hands up who's tired of the grey and cold weather! I am raising both my hands! For a fresh breeze of spring in your home it takes as little as a bunch of fresh blooms. Grab a bunch on your next market visit!
  • Vintage Wooden Table: Such a vintage wooden table is a big wish of mine for one of my future kitchens/dining rooms. I love the tactile feel of an old wooden table, the history you can feel while touching its surface. Bliss!
Do you like this room? What caught your eye?

Ideas For A Happy Weekend

Some of you who are regular readers will know that I love to stress the importance of relaxing and spending quality time with people you love. And that is exactly what I am about to do. I am off to Austria to my family's home to spend some time with them and old friends. And I will make a stop over at the local flower market. I don't know about the place you live in, but here temperatures have gone up these days and believe me or not, I can smell spring! It must be around the corner. And there is nothing more springlike for me than going to the flower market, absorbing the charming scents, enjoying the bright colours and picking that bunch of spring for your home. With this in mind, I'm wishing you a happy, springlike weekend!
