Why This Room Caught My Eye

Yesterday I took you to London to join in the fun I had while attending the 'Meet the Blogger' conference. Later this week I will take you on our 'design tour' through Portobello and Notting Hill, that was part of the blogger conference, too. Hence, I've decided to make this a UK week on Happy Interior Blog. The 'Happy Brits Awards' if you want so.

We won't move to far thus - we will stay in London and I want to draw your attention to the highlights that caught my eye in the living room of the British designer Harriet Anstruther. The mid-19th century house in London has lots to offer (more HERE) but the living room really caught my eye. Here is why:
  • Fiery, pink velvet sofa: One accent piece of furniture can set the entire tone of a room. In this case, the fiery, pink velvet sofa has a strong visual power and speaks of the creative minds living in this home. Its colour is reflected in the cushion on the other sofa and caught up by the large scale art above it.
  • Large scale art: This is the next highlight. A grand room calls for grand art. Here, the colourful painting adds interest and drama to the room and creates a sort of 'colourful cell' with the sofa.
  • Bay Window: For someone living in Germany, bay windows are a sheer highlight to me. They are not common at all here and every time I'm in the UK, I like to peek through the bay windows in the happy homes of the Brits.
Happy Tuesday, folks!

  1. love that sofa! totally daring but what fun! I am also crazy about large scale art too. Working on this project and have planned to do just that.

What also caught my eyes is that gorgeous stone fireplace! I would kill for one of those in my future home!

  2. Gorgeous room. I love white walls which seem to really bounce everything off them. The sofa is fantastic, but I would worry about investing in such a piece (unless I suddenly become rich) because it's such a statement. If I suddenly find myself being sick of it then what? Personally I stick to relatively classic basics and then add accessories which I can change easier, cheaper and quicker than a sofa ;-)

  3. Beautiful room! I LOVE that pink sofa! My bf would not appreciate me getting one for our home though ;)
We have a bright red one, without a bay window, unfortunately, but my uncle is an artist and he promised me a large painting. Can't wait for that! Liebe Gruesse aus Berlin nach Muenchen :)

  4. Luv' this room Igor - I am completely in agreement - fab and fab.
Happy Tuesday my friend, hope you are keeping cozy,

  5. Velvet sofas and fireplaces - killer combo for cosyness in summer and winter. LOVE IT IGOR.

  6. Το τραπεζακι στην μέση
ειναι οτι πρέπει για να ξεκουράζεις τα πόδια σου!

  7. nice room!!COngrats for your blog too Igor!!

  8. I adore this room! It has really inspired me as my lounge is very similar style with the bay window, fireplace and wood floor. I've been toying with a grey sofa but now very tempted to go pink!

  9. Great fireplace, rug & grey sofa. And the bay window is always a treat. The best thing about this room - for me - is how light it is.

  10. My eye goes to that hot pink cushion, too! So pretty!

  11. Bay windows are great, but it's not always easy to style them, especially when they take a lots of the space. This one is perfectly integrated into the room. And the sofa... great pop of color.
