Organizing + Storing

Maybe some of you will now roll their eyes and click away. But hey, let's face it. Winter is ending, spring is approaching. And with it comes one thought: spring-cleaning. To be honest, I like it. Cleaning out after a long, cold season. Uncluttering the home, cleaning out closets and drawers, organizing books, magazines, household goods, washing all blankets, covers, cushions, linens. Creating new storing solutions for home office supplies, paperwork and textiles.

It also is the season when I get rid of many things. And it feels so good and liberating. Some things I give away, others I sell on flea markets, and some are simply going right into the trash bin. I reorganize my magazines and books, clean and unclutter the kitchen shelves, sometimes I change rugs, pillow covers and blankets on the sofa. I add a bit more colour and spring feeling. How about you? Do you love or loathe spring-cleaning? And do you have some tricks and tips?

  1. Oh why does my house never quite look like this? I can look at this and dream though, right?

  2. I LOVE spring cleaning and in fact have been doing it for the past 4 weeks. Slowly going through every cupboard, books, mags etc. Considering what to give away, to sell and to re-organise. It is the most brilliant feeling until it all piles up again:)

I always do it around this time as to welcome spring into my home.

Tip: don't get overwhelmed. Start slowly and take it step by step. I sometimes only do half an hour a day, at weekends more. Like that it becomes manageable.

    Happy spring cleaning everyone!

  3. My place is pretty perfect all year round Igor ;-) I can't hoard or do clutter. Though I do need to do a bit of work with some cupboard space. Nice post.

  4. i really like the shelving along the basement staircase. it's a great use of a transitional space - and handy too.

i've moved house 3 times in 18 months. each time there was wholesale clear outs. i'm pretty well edited and curated now. so it will be just a spring dusting this year. it's about time!

  5. I love cleaning out in general... as in meaning cleaning OUT and not cleaning .. But when I get the feeling you describe I give it a proper clean and clean out and it feels great.. One little tip do one thing at time as in room by room ;) and stick to your plans.. I can get easily distracted by new ideas while cleaning out and wanting to change with a result the whole house is upside down ;P

  6. I LOVE spring cleaning. It feels so nice to have a clean and tidy apartment. I love to store linens in boxes and recently decanted all the dried goods in my kitchen into glass jars (a few Weck jars...!) and I love the result.

  8. I'm also a fan of spring cleaning - it's beneficial to the physical and psychological aspects of living. It makes you rethink, reorganize, re-energize. We've moved around a lot in the the past few years so even though I haven't done any actual 'spring-cleaning' in a while, packing and moving has accomplished the task and satisfied that urge well :)

    Nice post Igor!

    Xx.

  11. I enjoy spring cleaning too. We didn't have much of a winter, but I'm ready to dust off the cobwebs and get spring going around here. My husband calls it "shaking the dust off your karma," and he's right!

  12. Oh, I never ever roll my eyes at organizing and spring cleaning! :) LOVE it....love throwing open the windows and giving the house a good once over to bring in the spring fresh air. Can't wait....I am a big declutterer and organizer so, I confess to getting rid of stuff all the time...but, nothing like getting a big garbage bag and going through stuff and editing it all out. ( I don't throw it all away of course, I donate some and find new homes for others.) :) Thanks for reminding me that this is just around the corner! YAY!

  13. For many years now I've tried to avoid buying things that I have really no need for so there hasn't really been any reason for a thorough spring cleaning. And after we moved abroad we don't really have that much stuff. The home is clutter free.

So, for me this year's spring cleaning isn't a heavy work. I just need to give to the Red Cross some clothes that no longer fit the children, clean the windows and balcony, and buy flowers ;-)
