Book Review: 'Gypsy' By Sibella Court

I am an avowed Sibella Court fan. I love her bohemian, well-traveled character, her inspiring and colorful styling work, her enchanting books. I already loved her previous books so I was pretty excited to get hold of her latest book 'Gypsy'. Once I had it at home, I waited for a leisurely quiet Sunday morning to dive into the colorful world of Sibella Court - in bed with a cup of freshly brewed coffee.

In 'Gypsy' Sibella Court takes us on an inspiring travel around the globe, collecting interior design and styling ideas on the way. The title refers to the bohemian, nomadic travel lifestyle of gypsies in previous eras, their colorful and joyful approach to life embracing all ups and downs as they come. With this book in your hands, you feel a bit like you've set off to such a bohemian voyage around the world. The book takes us in dedicated chapters to the Galapagos islands and Ecuador, to Indochine, Turkey, Scotland and Transylvania.

Every visited place reveals its characteristics and charms through the eyes and words of Sibella Court. Be it nature, its people, architecture, colours, scents, traditions, interiors - with this book you will be reminded that every trip, wherever it takes you, is a chance to discover our planet through an aesthetic approach.

Sibella gives us insights into her work and how she approaches travels in order to get inspiration for her styling work. She pulls together colour boards for every destination visited and showcases examples of how these regions can be translated into interior styling and decoration. For avid travelers like myself this is a real gem and source of ongoing inspiration.

But be warned: You will surely reconsider your souvenirs from your upcoming trips after you had read this book! And you will probably want to pack up your stuff and set off for an inspiring voyage immediately. Be brave and face these risks with this wonderful book!

  3. Very tempting, indeed… I think I've read about her previous book on your blog as well, right? Just looking at your images of the book here makes me want to pack my bag and leave (or cuddle up on the sofa with a cup of coffee), so I can be sure that your predictions would be true for me. The cover looks really nice, too. Will put this on my wish list.

  8. I still need to review my copy. I do feel this is the least interesting one of all of her books. But that is just my personal opinion. I liked the other ones better.
