Forest Inspired Vignette

Autumn mist, crisp air, the wilderness of the forest - all these seasonal elements inspired me to a little vignette. I love to play around at home from time to time and go through my piles of props. This vignette has been triggered by a vintage oil painting that I had found recently online. I liked the deep greens, the evocative brushstrokes, the immortalized nature. The oil painting reminded me of my scented candle named Skov (Forest) by Skandinavisk and I had the perfect props from Bolia to finish it off - three little wooden forest trees, a shiny vase and a marble tray. 

What I like most about this vignette is not the green hues, it is the interesting 2D/3D effect created by the forest trees on the oil painting and the wooden forest trees. More pictures and explanations can be seen on the Bolia blog where I presented my forest vignette, too.

Happy Interior Blog Recommends: Skandinavisk

I am a mixed breed but one thing I can reassure you: I have no Scandinavian genes in my body. Yet I am drawn to a certain Scandinavian notion of interiors and interior styling. And to quite a few Scandinavian brands. One of those is a young brand that I discovered in Copenhagen last year: Skandinavisk. A truly Scandinavian brand founded by two English guys who fell in love with two Scandinavian girls - now this I call a happy brand DNA!

Skandinavisk is a celebration of Scandinavian lifestyle, of vast silent landscapes, of cosy shared moments, of the world's happiest peoples. Of hygge. I couldn't put it better than what they're saying about themselves. When I met them in Copenhagen I was immediately drawn to their beautifully designed scented candles. In the meantime, they've extended their range with adorably happy tableware collection named FIKA (I blogged about it HERE).

Today, I am focusing on one of their scented candles with the mysterious name Ø. What looks like a weird letter is in fact an entire word bearing the promise of freedom, air, sea and wilderness - it means 'island' in Danish. It is inspired by hundreds of thousands uninhabited islands scattered across Scandinavian waters. It carries the poetic promise of the 'solitude of the archipelagos'. 

Now as someone who had spent a part of his life in Greece on the shores of the Aegean sea I couldn't help but give the candle a Mediterranean twist. And this is the result. A salty breeze, the sound of the sea, the scent of a happy escape to the island.

Scandinavia Meets Mediterranean: Interpreting the 'Kubus' Candleholder by 'By Lassen'

Today is a special day - it is actually Christmas for me (and many others who celebrate according to the old Julian calendar in the orthodox world). So I thought I'll share a special post with you that has a teeny-tiny touch of Christmas but is yet announcing a bit the coming spring time. To achieve this little decoration balancing act, I've opted to combine two styles or themes I adore: Scandinavian design with a Mediterranean twist. The ingredients for this little home décor experiment? An absolute Scandinavian design classic like the 'Kubus' candleholder from 'By Lassen' and a Mediterranean inspired colour scheme of blues and whites. 

How did I come up with this idea? Well I was very lucky and honored to be contacted by 'By Lassen' and asked if I'd like to do a little decoration scheme with their classic 'Kubus' candleholder and well, what else could I say then yes, yes, oh yes! So for quite a while I was thinking and rethinking what I'd like to do with it and I wanted to give it a more personal touch. As the weather here is surprisingly mild and sunny and I reminisced about my days in Greece, I came up with the idea of a little styling that would combine the Scandinavian design coolness with the warmth and textures of the Mediterranean.

I set off to the market and bought a bunch of olive twigs, juggled together a few of my blue and white decorative objects, got some beautiful blue ombré candles, the 'Kubus' candleholder and set everything together on my blue Bølling tray table - et voilà, the little decoration vignette was ready!

New Milk Lamp & Colour Crush

It is past midnight while I am typing this words and I am unnaturally late with my blogpost writing today. But the reason was quite fancy - I organized a little blogger meet-up for the local Munich blogger community and we had a great evening with food and drinks. So, this intro was necessary as I had two glasses of chilled rosé and hope to be clear and comprehensible in today's post:-) On this happy Friday I chose to share with you a new cutie that  has moved into my apartment: the fabulous 'Milk Lamp' designed by Norm Architects and manufactured and sold by &tradition.

I am in love with this lamp because it is simple and sophisticated at the same time. It is a well designed table lamp that carries the essence of Nordic design in its DNA. The simple lines, the combination of natural materials such as wood in combination with glass, the warmth of its light - all this makes this lamp a design masterpiece. I particularly love the dimmer as you can adjust the light and atmosphere according to your wishes.

I have placed my new Milk Lamp on the sideboard in my bedroom and have created a little vignette around it featuring my current colour crush - blue and grey. I love the two colours in combination and I've added two small ceramic houses by Bloomingville, a vase by House Doctor with some coloured ribbon in it and a lovely watercolour painting by Greek artist Fiona Zakka.

Friday's Favorite Snapshots

Well my blog turned one last week so I've decided to tweak my content and keep you all entertained and happy. So from now on I will change Friday's structure: Once a month I will continue to present an interior stylist, photographer, designer or another creative person that caught my attention in the series 'Happily Ever After'. And the other Fridays will be dedicated to my favorite snapshots. Today's the premiere of this new series.

Ever since I've got myself a proper DSLR camera, I can't help but snap around and sometimes I really like the pictures so I thought I'll share those snapshots with you. Today I've added two snaps - both of them taken this week in my home.

I tend to redecorate my home from time to time. So my little prints, vases, plants etc. keep traveling from one corner to the other. Currently, my yellow side table serves as a bright and happy stage for my Scandinavian candlesticks, my little globe, my beloved succulent and some fresh blooms. And this little vignette is carefully observed by a great Andy Warhol quote.

On my bedroom sideboard I've grouped some of my favorite vases into a visual prolongation of the big Olaf Hajek art print, that serves as a backdrop and colour inspiration. The pink, yellow, red, amber and turquoise hues are the main colours of the art print and mirrored in my little vase collection, among them the little pink, handmade vase from Fuerteventura, the yellow-turquoise cutie from Anthropologie, the turquoise crackled vase from a local store in Munich, the amber one from Nordic Bliss and the midcentury yellow-red vase from a local antiques store.

Ideas For A Happy Weekend

Autumn is all around. It has gotten really fresh here in Germany and the nights are delightfully crisp and call for that extra blanket. Now if you like to celebrate a new season in your interiors too, you can choose to add a little seasonal decoration by creating an autumn inspired vignette. The pic above gives you one possible option. Think of muted, nature inspired hues and various textures. The above shown combination elegantly puts wood, metal, stone and glass into a decorative mix and freshens up the setting with a few fresh blooms. Weathered surfaces and rich textures speak of passing times and changing seasons. A few little things and here it is, an autumn inspired vignette. Happy weekend, folks!
