Happy Interior Blog Recommends...
Wednesday is hump day is half way to weekend is a day to treat yourself - this is the sort of weird sequence of thoughts I have on hump days. You know, little treats motivate you to tackle the remaining half of the working week and then indulge in a relaxing weekend. Now I admit, some might say, ok, get yourself some chocolates, buy yourself a jumper, a pair of new shoes or a a nice book. But hey, I am who I am and I love to buy things for the home. And this week's recommendations could all go right into my virtual basket. Is there a treat for you too? Today we've got fresh on offer the following goodies:
1. Hand made porcelain vessels by British designer Rhian Malin via Cavaliero Finn
2. Surprise (design) gift box for yourself or a beloved person (perfect in time for
Christmas) by Not Another Bill
3. Roxy arm chair with ethnic pattern via Onefortythree
4. Undercover blanket via Starling Store
5. Crescent cup/planter via Nasty Gal
6. Cactus tote bag via Leif Shop
Now hump day looks all better, right? Have a happy one!

Currently I am pondering about a new bookshelf for my tiny apartment. A slightly bigger one than the current one I have, so that I can store more books in it and that I can use some shelves for those tending 'shefies' - you know, it's quite a good way to train your styling skills with shelves:-)
I haven't made up my mind about the shelf yet, but I have found a few new accessories that would look rad on my new shelf. These and a few more findings, including some lovely home accessories I already own, are part of this week's recommendations. Hope you gonna like them! Have fun & happy hump day!
1. Simple and beautiful organic bedlinen by Laura Thomas Linens
2. Kay Bojesen Monkey via Nest
3. Tivoli Model One radio in white and yellow
4. Rama chair via Olsson & Gerthel
5. Mid-century Danish walnut candlesticks via Ebay
6. Handmade cactus print via SR Paper Works
7. Blue Pantone espresso maker via Howkapow

Here is a little thought I have from time to time while writing my Wednesday column: Is shopping a bad thing? More precisely: Do I have to feel guilty every time I buy a new little decor item or home accessories? Let me spit out the answer straight away without any further doubt: No! Ok, I would not want you to turn into an obsessive shopaholic who buys just for the sake of buying. But adding one or two little pieces for the home from time to time helps elevating your spirits and interior happiness. Trust me, I am a living test subject!
My little challenge every Wednesday is to not shop everything I recommend here myself. Believe me, I have often bought those things myself because if I gave in, I knew it's good enough to share with you all on the blog. So in last Wednesday's round-up of recommendations I bought one piece for example. This week I have resisted and haven't bought anything. Yet. How long will I remain strong? Who knows! Here are my 'coups de coeur' for this week:
1. Auva wallpaper by Trove
2. Ball Mason jar via Lieblingsglas
3. Isaac Sconce Brass by Schoolhouse Electric
4. Seagrass ceramic cup via Sugartrends
5. Blue enamel vintage teapot via Etsy

Hump days are shopping days! Well, at least they're shopping inspiration days here on Happy Interior Blog. I've said it a few times, I am the first victim of my product recommendations for happy homes as I tend to buy some of them myself. Just like with this week's recommendations - yet again, I've bought one of the pieces you can see here. I'll let you guess what I got for myself.
This week's product recommendations are inspired by a modern-bohemian style with touches of ethnic vibes, contemporary styles and Scandinavian inspiration. I hope you'll like today's suggestions and maybe you will find something your your happy home, too:
1. 'Sasha' art print by Sofia Bonati via Redbubble
2. Beep Table Lamp by Conran via JCPenny
3. Wooden candleholders by Bloomingville via Stilherz
4. Handmade ceramics by Robert Blue via Mociun
5. Kilim bed cushions by Barrington Blue

Sometimes I have to admit it: The most precious thing in my home is when I have time to enjoy it. I was thinking about it while I was thinking of today's post and what I'd like to share as product recommendations for our homes. Consequently, I've combined a product with a special moment in the very first recommendation. So first and foremost: I recommend you take your personal time out, you sit down in your home, enjoy your favorite magazine or book, smell fresh blooms, have a coffee or tea, enjoy and love your home. This said, here come this week's product recommendations for happy homes:
1. Time-out moment with my favorite magazine and fresh blooms in my new Piet Hein vase: A classical art piece by Danish designer Piet Hein in vibrant orange adds a warm pop of colour in any home.
2. Mid-century table lamp by West Elm: I love the combination of materials and patterns in this lamp - a wooden base with a ceramic jar shaped body in petrol embellished with geometric mid-century patterns and topped with an natural linen lampshade. I want this lamp!
3. Sideboard Narvik by Fashion for Home: I adore this wooden sideboard with colorful finishings for a modern look.
4. JYM storage rack by Studio Novo: I discovered this design piece by Austrian Studio Novo on the recent Blickfang design show in Munich and fell in love with its simplicity and sophistication. You just lean it on the wall - no drilling, no mounting needed! A fabulous solution for small and rented apartments - just like mine. And you can use it in the kitchen, the bathroom or the hallway - for kitchenware, towels, clothes, magazines - whatever you fancy!
Happy hump day everyone!

Since Pinterest my shopping habits and desires have changed considerably. It has never been easier to find inspiration for new shopping adventures and my wish list has never been longer I am afraid. Today's interior related recommendations are just a tiny little slice of all my desires on my Pinterest boards. But still, these goodies have made it to my shortlist of recommendations today - and one of these I already bought and have at home. Now it's up to you to guess which one:-) Today I would like to recommend to you:
1. New textile designs by Flock like the colorful 'Northmore' pattern by Rachel Parker or the graphic 'Cracked Ice' design by Angela Johnston.
2. The sculptural 'Manhattan Chair' by Redford House.
3. The stylish 'Molly Glass Table Lamp' by John Lewis.

Which of these would you put on your wish list?

Yesterday's room on my blog inspired me for a little colorful restyling in my home - with ethnic accents. As much as I love clean and cool Scandinavian looks, I can't escape my Balkan roots and I love ethnic elements - colours, patterns, think of kilims and patterned throws. It's something I was surrounded with as a kid.
Every summer I would travel with my parents to the far south of what then was Yugoslavia to stay with my grandparents. They lived in a rather oriental area so it was a common rule that my grandparents had hardly any chairs. They only had a set of chairs that was only used for special occasions and feasts. For the daily life, we sat on the floor, leaned on special, long cushions called 'minderluk', we would eat sitting around a very low, round wooden table called 'sofra' sitting on low, mostly handmade wooden stools. The floors were covered with kilims and the evenings were spent sitting together and telling old stories. Wonderful memories.
Well, I was a bit inspired by this walk down memory lane and here are a few products to add an ethnic vibe to your home:
1. Framed black sea fan by Hannah Brown Interiors
2. Moroccan kilim cushion by Babasouk
3. Nicaraguan vase by Roads Well Traveled
4. Acapulco Multi Lounge Chair by CB2
5. Yellow kilim carpet by Babsouk

Today it's over - I mean the crazy carnival time here in Germany. And some more quite days towards spring lie ahead of us. And the nature's awakening - you know, the snowdrops in your garden, the first fresh pops of green in the park, budding trees. And the nature is a major inspiration for interiors - I can sort of feel the green vibe moving into my home, too. For me it will rather be a small piece like the fun H&M cushion or the emerald green espresso maker. But I've got more ideas if you want to go bolder - from a cool shelf for green decor items to a velvety sofa. Today's recommendations include:
1. Atoll Shelf by Atoll
2. Green watercolor painting by 'Outside in Art Studio'
3. Green cushion by H&M Home
4. Emerald green espresso maker by Howkapow
5. Palm green mug by Le Creuset
6. Green velvet sofa by Crate & Barrel
Will you add something green into your home this season?
Happy hump day, friends!

Yesterday evening I had one of those random decoration attacks out of the blue. Oh, I love the expression 'out of the blue'. First of all I love the colour blue, and secondly it has a connection to my decoration attack: Since my living room is predominately decorated in grey, blue and dashes of yellow, I felt irritated by a couple of books with red covers on my sideboard. It was literally a disturbing fact so I had to get up and take out all the red books and pack them out of sight. Now I feel way happier.
When it comes to a sort of visual consistency, I think of my favorite German interior design studio: Studio Oink. And the best thing is that they recently launched an online shop called 'Studio Oink Selected' selling off some of the goodies they use for their stylings, mostly one-of-a-kind vintage pieces. So here comes my little board of recommendations from their current offer. I hope you will like it as much as I do!
1. Danish design plate
2. Enamel breakfast bowls
3. Glass vases
4. Vintage desk lamp
5. Vintage blankets
6. Vintage Danish vase

After three design trade shows in a row I can safely proclaim the rule of grey, blue and yellow in 2014! So I took this as an inspiration for today's product recommendations for happy homes. A good deal of greys, a fresh injection of yellows and saturated blues, some wood and marble and we are all set to be very fashionably dapper in our home!
But let me guide you through today's happy picks:

2. Rest Sofa by Muuto
3. Marble coffee table by Fleux
4. Glass vase by H&M Home
5. Cornflower blue throw handmade in Pakistan via Far & Wide
6. Shower curtain by By Nord
7. Striped bedding by H&M Home
Anything you fancy from this selection? Ok, I am off to do some online shopping...

It's quite a while ago that I'd discovered a beautifully woven basket somewhere online and I couldn't resist but buy it. This is how I discovered the work of US designer Doug Johnston - and that's how I fell in love with his beautiful baskets that remind me of traditional baskets from Africa but these have a modern, contemporary look. The latest series is called 'Density Baskets' and these feature some colour combination that seem to be a strong reference to the traditional African baskets in fact.
But be aware: Doug Johnston is way more than a product designer. His works art, design, architecture and music, utilizing and exploring a variety of mediums and methods such as installation, fibre art, sculptures, photography and performances. Recently he has focused on a process of coiling and stitching ropes into a variety of functional and sculptural objects. Such as these beautiful baskets. And if you want to be a lucky owner of a Doug Johnston basket just like me, here's his webshop with great designs.
Happy hump day, friends!

January is a busy month and I am literally rushing from one design fair to another. After last week's trip to Copenhagen I will be off to the imm furniture show in Cologne and later to the Maison & Objet show in Paris. With all the shows usually you get a first grasp of what is trending this year when it comes to furniture design and home accessories.
There are of course some materials that we have already seen last year, but also new combinations and interpretations. My personal 'hot topics' for stylish homes are the colours blue and grey, wood, marble, brass, leather, inspiration from nature and indoor plants. Inspired by this observations here comes this week's board of product recommendations:
1. River wallpaper by Emma Hayes
2. & 3. Marble chopping board and Chemex coffee maker by Crate & Barrel
4. Organic bath oil by Ambre
5. R.I.G. table by MA/U Studio

Yesterday I was searching for a little Christmas décor item from last year in my apartment for a little vignette for the upcoming Urban Jungle Bloggers post. Can you believe it that even in a tiny 32 square meters apartment you can be searching for a décor object like for an hour? I concluded: I am the master of small scale living. I have even found a way to make things disappear in order to avoid clutter in a small space!
But in such a situation I always come to a very smart solution: This is the best excuse to buy something new! I flipped open my Macbook and surfed the web and found all kind of inspiration for happy homes - of course. Here are this week's favorites, hope you like them as much as I do!
1. Ritchie two-seater sofa by Made.com
2. Driftwood table lamp 'Rachar' by milanari.com
3. Happy ceramic two-toned cup by Rice (I have the same at home)
4. Pooley tube vases by Chives
5. Handmade tea pot by Sparrow & Co.
If you could pick but one, which one would it be? Your turn!
P.S. Eventually, I've found my little décor object!
