Home Tour: A Gallery Home In Berlin

Seven years ago I lived for a short period of time in the German capital Berlin. Ever since the fall of the Berlin Wall, the German metropolis has transformed itself into a vibrant hub for creatives from all over the world. Galleries, shops, museums, restaurants and cafés keep popping up all over the city. No wonder Berlin has become also an epitome for cool, urban interior design. 

A few days ago I received an email from a Danish company called Dinesen. I admit, I have never heard before of them. I quickly found out that they produce and sell high quality wooden plank flooring and then I got hooked - wooden planks are a dream of mine. One day I just wish I could live in a spacious apartment with great wooden plank flooring. Dinesen produces extraordinary planks - up to 15 meters long and extra wide. Wow. No wonder they furnish numerous galleries and museums with their products.

Well, speaking of galleries: Dinesen sent a set of pictures from a fabulously inspiring gallery home in Berlin to my humble email inbox. And yes, I've decided to share this interior design inspiration with you. This is the home of the Danish gallery owner Mikael Andersen in Berlin and his gallery is just one floor lower. The whole building is full of history as it is an old brewery dating back to the 1800s. The airy loft character, the design classics and the vibrant art speak of its owner. You can clearly tell that this is the home of a creative person with refined aesthetics and a sophisticated design approach. Oh, and a good taste when it comes to flooring. Obviously.

Why This Room Caught My Eye

Today I have the feeling, I don't even have to name what caught my eye in this pic - it is catchy in its entirety, isn't it? But still, I can break it down to three key features, that really caught my eye in this happy dining room. Let's roll.

• Quirky wall decor: Even though in the background, the quirky and funny wall decor caught my eye immediately. Easy way to add quirk to any room.
• Vintage school chairs: They do remind me of school times in the 80s. What a great revival as dining chairs - now that is happiness reinterpreted!
• Super blue flooring: What a colour statement! With such a happy floor, you can easily tone down the rest, the room will be a highlight nonetheless. My favorite here!

5 Happy Inspirations: Wooden Floors

Today I was pondering what it would be like if I looked for a new, bigger apartment. What would I pay attention to? What would be a 'must' in my future home and what a 'nice to have'? My view wandered through my current home and got stuck while looking at my floor. A nice, a bit worn, wooden parquet floor with square pattern. And I knew immediately: An absolute and not negotiable prerequisite is a wooden floor. And just then I decided to dedicate today's '5 Happy Inspirations' to wooden floors! 

As long as it's wood I am happy. Whether it's a beautiful and classic herringbone parquet, natural or white wooden planks, a glamorous black ebony flooring or an unexpected and eco-friendly solution like this upcycled old pallets turned flooring - real wood adds so much warmth and texture to an apartment and ensures this very homey feeling.
