Today I was pondering what it would be like if I looked for a new, bigger apartment. What would I pay attention to? What would be a 'must' in my future home and what a 'nice to have'? My view wandered through my current home and got stuck while looking at my floor. A nice, a bit worn, wooden parquet floor with square pattern. And I knew immediately: An absolute and not negotiable prerequisite is a wooden floor. And just then I decided to dedicate today's '5 Happy Inspirations' to wooden floors!
As long as it's wood I am happy. Whether it's a beautiful and classic herringbone parquet, natural or white wooden planks, a glamorous black ebony flooring or an unexpected and eco-friendly solution like this upcycled old pallets turned flooring - real wood adds so much warmth and texture to an apartment and ensures this very homey feeling. What is your opinion on wooden floors?

The truth is that I'd opt for all the above without the least hesitation! They are all stunning! Thanks for sharing that Igor! Kalo Pasxa na exoume!
ReplyDeleteI'm a big fan of wooden floors but in a bedroom I think it's essential to soften them up with some tactile rugs underfoot. When I was a teenager I sanded the original floorboards down and left them exposed in my bedroom - they looked great but until I had rugs down it was a bit chilly underfoot! P.S. Those black floorboards are FAB!
ReplyDeleteRight now my appartment has a herringbone pattern which I like but not adore, if I am really honest! I'd rather have planks in my home. My real dream however is to have white planks in an appartment. I absolutely love any image which has that! Unfortunately I'll probably move into another rental appartment in Berlin this year which will have planks but which I won't be allowed to paint ;( – I am getting closer however *hihi*
ReplyDeleteI'm a big wooden floor fan Igor... no home should be without (ideally). That said, I would love polished concrete one day... he dreams. If I had to choose above, I'd pick the natural planks. I recently picked out a great walnut floor for my Mum & Dad's bedroom and it does look fantastic!
ReplyDeleteBAN THE CARPET!
Aww, wood floors... Someday I will have herringbone wood floors throughout my house.
ReplyDeleteI find it funny how people from developed countries (who mostly have planks) think that herringbone parquet is cool. In Serbia, worn-out herringbone means your apartment is very old and that the parquet has probably been there since your parents first moved in. :) When I moved in, my first thought was: I have to get rid of this hideous parquet and get planks", but now I love it :D It's back in fashion :)
ReplyDeleteThank you all for your valuable feedback! Great to see that so many of you like wooden floors too! My favorite are white or natural planks - and one day, I may live in a place with that kind of flooring. Fingers crossed:-)
ReplyDeleteI loooove the white and black wooden floors. It's definitely something I would think of doing if I owned my own home! Great inspiration as always!
ReplyDeleteAllow your wood to acclimate to the climate where it is being installed. Once installed, use a dry mop or vacuum to clean the surface.
ReplyDeleteWooden floors are just fantastic because of the warmer and homier ambience these create. With painting, stencilling or staining techniques, one can even add up more sophistication to it. At present, there are even different styles, designs and materials to choose from, not to mention the eco-friendly ones. Anyway, thank you for sharing this post.
ReplyDeleteFor those who are thinking of improving the current look of their homes or living room in particular, reading helpful blogs such as this one is indeed a good idea. You get to see samples of finished projects as well as the materials to determine which will work best for you.
