Why This Room Caught My Eye

Yesterday, while I was on Twitter I got into a little conversation with one of my blogger friends, an Australian who lives in Paris and designs jewelry. Olivia told me about the book 'Gypset Travel' by Julia Chaplin (which is now on my wish list) and this got me daydreaming of bohemian style interiors, lush and rich with textures, patterns and colours. This thought led to the next one, being a soft, velvety emerald sofa as a key feature in a bohemian chic interior design. A few clicks later I stumbled over this inspiring room that caught my eye and illustrates my bohemian interior idea. These reasons caught my eye in particular:

• Soft, emerald sofa: Pantone's colour of the year 2013 is noble, decadent, bobo (bourgeois-bohème) and I love it on a big, soft sofa in particular. To be honest, I am thinking of a new acquisition for myself.
• Hairpin legged coffee table: Almost juxtaposed to the bohemian chic of the rich sofa is the somewhat retro meets industrial hairpin legged coffee table with wooden top. I love its contradiction - made of heavy wood and cast iron, it still has an airy lightness in itself.
• Vintage kilim rug: The decadent chicness of the velvety emerald sofa is once again juxtaposed by the worldly, time travelled vintage kilim rug with its vibrant colours. It entails the magic of past times and far away cultures and perfectly completes the bohemian chic styling of this room.

Why This Room Caught My Eye

Tuesday candy for our interior design loving eyes - that's the purpose of my Tuesday series 'Why This Room Caught My Eye'. I was going through the various issues of my favorite Australian e-mag Est Magazine and got hooked by this dining nook. Here are the three reasons why this room caught my eye:

• Signature lighting: The industrial style, oversized wall lighting sets the tone in this dining nook. In combination with the tiled wall this lighting calls for a reduced, rather monochrome styling.
• Black & Wood Dining: The set of dining table and chairs in black with a wooden tabletop are the ideal counterparts for the lighting. I like the café style chairs as opposed to the raw metal table base.
• Floating storage: A little dose of quirk adds the perfect pinch of interest to this nook. The slightly irregular order as well as the use of dark blue shelves loosen up the raw industrial touch.

Why This Room Caught My Eye

Sometimes I am having a hard time to nail down three things that caught my eye in a particular room. Just like today. I mean seriously, is there anything that doesn't catch your eye in this happy bedroom? It just takes a few tweaks to design an amazing bedroom. In this case, these three design factors caught my eye:

• Supersized art: Go big! Supersize it! And don't waste too much time with searching for that unique art piece to embellish your bedroom. Instead, get artsy and make your very own art to hang above your bed. Opt for a large canvas with light wooden framing to make sure it won't do any harm, even if it fell down (just in case).
• Vintage blanket: It's time to go through your mother's or grannie's pool of home textiles to find that beloved vintage blanket for your bed. Use it to cuddle up and reminisce about joyful childhood times or cover your bed for a style statement. If you are short of vintage finds, check out Ebay or Etsy for vintage throws.
• Yellow chair as bedside table: Add a bit of playfulness and personality by adding a stark yellow chair as a bedside table. Perfect to host your alarm clock, books, your watch, a scented candle. And it comes in handy for that extra guest who needs a seat!

Ideas For A Happy Weekend

I am a pretty indecisive nature. I like to go out. I like to stay in. I like colours. I like monochrome. I like coffee. I like tea. Sigh.  That blend of tastes and likes defines my aesthetics. I tend to try different styles and combinations and sometimes I discover something new and unexpected that works. This rule applies for my bedlinen, too. I have many styles and colours, but during summer I love simple, natural hued linen. Their special tactile feel is the epitome of lazy summer mornings. So let us think of this little idea for a happy weekend: Cherish your aesthetics and apply to one important rule - there is no rule. Just your style. Have a great weekend, friends!

5 Happy Inspirations: My Five Latest Pins

Once again I got hooked up by Pinterest. I've pinned my way along and while looking over my latest pins I realized how lovely they matched each other. I love the way our pins reveal our taste and style. Our Pinterest boards become a visual portfolio of our aesthetics - you can see whether a fellow pinner is a graphic type of person, a rustic fellow, a romantic pal, a colourful friend or a monochromatic connoisseur.
