My friend and fellow blogger Stefanie Luxat comes with many talents. As a journalist, as an interior stylist, as a wedding expert and businesswoman. Yes, I think she's quite a woman. So it was just a question of time when she'll publish an interior book (after her successful wedding book) and - drumroll - here it is! The German title reads 'Wie eine Wohnung ein Zuhause wird', literally translated as 'How an Apartment turns into a Home'. So let's have a little peek into the book of homes.
What I like about interiors is the story of its owners. I try to 'read' the interiors and imagine the dwellers, their character and lifestyle. Stefanie's book tells this stories by portraying the home owners and introducing us to their abodes.
In her new book she not only presents inspiring interiors and personalities, she also shares decoration and styling tips for your home, shopping addresses for home accessories and DIY ideas. As a book focusing on the visual aesthetic of interiors, it is dominated by beautiful, full page photographies. Oh and last but not least: I like the book because it is a slice of real life. Admittedly, beautiful and stylish real life, but real. Not overly decorated and styled. Just as beautiful as life gets in our everyday adventures.
If you read/understand German, get a copy of 'Wie eine Wohnung ein Zuhause wird', published by Callwey, HERE. And no matter what language you understand, if you like to win one copy of this interior book just leave a comment under this blogpost and tell me what makes your apartment a real home? Join in - the giveaway is open for a week and the winner will be chosen randomly.
Happy reading & good luck!

It's my comfy reading nook and the general chaos that seems to develop when I'm not looking which make my apartment my home sweet home! :-)
ReplyDeleteWonderful book! My apartment is full of flowers, blankets and black&white photographs which I love , these things and of course my little puppy makes me feel like home :)
ReplyDeleteGreat book! I read Stefanie Luxats Blog on a weekly basis and would love to get some inspiration for my new apartment and soon to be home - moving in in 2 weeks!
ReplyDeleteReal Home for me - people who live in that home, mixture of modern furniture and personal accessoires... Although we live in our a apartment for almost 1 year there are still parts of it that need to become home instead of "having a lot of plans" but the final idea is still missing. Guess there is so much inspiration in this book .... !
ReplyDeleteI think it is all about creating a safe haven for you and your family, surrounded by precious and treasured pieces as well as the practical items for daily use to make life that little bit easier!
ReplyDeleteLove Steffi's blog and would absolutely love to win a copy of her book - she is a very multi-talented lady!

I've been living in germany for almost four years so I have to understand that book. If I don't I'm officially unable to speak German! ;)
ReplyDeleteWhat makes my apartment a real home is my wife, the smell of coffee and toasts every morning and the curtains that my mother made for me.

What makes my home a real home are things that remind me of places I've been, for example a huge driftwood branch found on a beach in Ireland and used as a curtain rail.
ReplyDeleteI love her blog and would love to win that book.
ReplyDeleteWhat makes my home a real home - it's my bed and the quiet and cosy time I spend there.
You can have a sofa in a café, but there are usually no public beds (maybe in hotel rooms; but you also close the door behind you there).
What makes real my home? All the things made by me above all! Maybe they are not perfect, or not so up-to-date, but are mine, made with creativity and passion, and express my life and my personality! :-)

i dont understand german but i want it!!
ReplyDeletei think my apartment is a real home by the combination of the new & the old furniture .
my home becomes a home because of the people who live and laugh and love there :) otherwise it's the combination of furniture back from my years as a student with new stuff we bought for the new apartment.
ReplyDeleteThings from my childhood home, a little bit of nostalgia.
ReplyDeleteHi Igor,

ReplyDeleteI'd love to win, though you'll have to help me translate :) my apartment feels like home because it's filled with little pieces of my life over time.

My apartment feels the most like home when it' s filled with people -chatting, laughing, and eating. Although I also love it when it's just me...

Currently living in Africa, I brought a lot of stuff from our friendly yellow and blue swedish retailer over to make me feel at home...you do not appreciate it until you are couple of thousand km away from the next store :-)
ReplyDeleteMy apartment is a home because it is a very individual mix of ikea, design, flea market, art and dust ;) plus I leave my teacups all over the place so you can track my way around my home at the end of the day. blur at hab-verschlafen.de
ReplyDeleteMy apartment is a home because i filled it with all my heart and lots of love - and nice vintage furniture, cool neon rugs and all my favorite stuff - of course... :)
What I love most about my home is who I share it with.
Andenken an Erlebtes!

Let me try my luck :) It would be great to win a copy so I can practise my German! I have recently moved to Italy and rented out my apartment in Poland. At first I was missing it a lot - all the little corners, decorations and collections, my work space, my bed (!) and the general feeling of being surrounded by familiar objects and furniture. BUT, I have come to the conclusion that the most important are the people (and pets :) - so I am pretty sure they are the reason why my home feels real. Have a great weekend!

My humble abode contains precious memories of my late parents. Every piece of furniture tells a story of their love and commitment to this lovely home. That to me is a real home of this simple cosy flat.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the Review and the pictures. I Love Steffi's Blog and would Love to Win her New Book.
ReplyDeleteMainly it's the energy of people living with me in the apartment, but let's not forget about all the little bits and pieces representing our taste like collectables, comfy and cozy furniture, pieces of art. It also might be the smell that surrounds us and reminds us about holidays, childhood, maybe some nice scent of candle or perfumes of beloved... ahh there are some many things. I would be delighted to have such an interesting book, thanks very much for the nice post
ReplyDeleteIt shows many of my memories but it is also perfect to plan the future travels and projects! and, over all, my cats adore every soft corner of it!
ReplyDeleteThe well-known quote "I don't read text, I just look at pictures" is definitely for me here. I loved the vintage look of these interiors (you were right Igor, there is more than just the one on IG in the book ;-) I won't probably get the history behind these houses but I'll appreciate the pictures for sure! What makes our apt a home? we are a family of four, nothing is perfect, everything gets moved around all the time, we put together our travels souvenirs, our vintage finds and some more contemporary pieces. All together everything works just because we did it ourselves and even though I'm the one to spend more time in decorating it, everyone gets its part of the cake ;-) Thank you for this giveaway. Now I just have to keep my fingers crossed ;-) xx
ReplyDeleteSo many things! My kids, the love and care taken to chose each of the pieces over the years, travel finds, memories, artwork and gifts collected, flea market finds, my comfortable bed and favourite linens, and soo much more!
ReplyDeleteI love the way your blog is coming along. Keep up the good work and send us some mors inspiration! X
The people that live there, the memories and all the stuff that we have been collecting over the years. House+Love=Home
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful book!

My apartment is our home because of us! But of course also all of the little details, from the paint on the walls to the legos scattered on the carpet.
ReplyDeleteWhere freshly baked cookies and your favourite armchair collide with the latest Murakami novel that's home.
Also immer her mit dem Buch…

ReplyDeleteWhat makes our home? The not always matching pieces that are with us because they crossed our path at a certain moment in our lives.
ReplyDeleteJa gerne! Sieht toll aus- ich würde mich freuen!! :-)

ReplyDeleteI spy yellow, just like in my home. It brings the sunshine in, makes everyone happy & it's what makes my house my home. Hooray for bright colours :)

In my opinion it's about keeping it personal and authentic instead of following every trend and keeping it too order and styled. Nobody really lives in such tidy and clean apartments, they often seem like steril hotel rooms: beautiful styled, modern but still with no soul. And people just copy styles, I miss original ideas... Well, I always like it when you get an idea who lives there, what is it they like, their hobbies, their passions... maybe by photos, a cool record collection, huge book shelf, paintings, ... that makes it a home.
ReplyDeleteHi dear Igor,
ReplyDeleteTo begin with, I'm wishing you a great, new week ahead!
What a nice give away you organised, really glad to take part in it : )
So, what makes our spaces into h o m e ?
A feeling of b e l o n g i n g ...
I know this might sound to many rather vague, yet all I mean is probably that it takes some time to reach to "being at HOME", regardless of the material stuff we surround us with.
However. there do are these occasions we fall for our spaces from the very first sight & consequently they probably become "home" somehow easier & faster than in other cases.
It's a feeling one recognizes i n t u i t i v e l y & just knows with the heart that one is "at home", not many explanations given.
Feeling in peace or enjoying everything one is surrounded with...
and not forget the most important of it all:
Home is the people we share our lives with. { for those that choose to do so, cause there are wonderfully happy people enjoying their abodes on their own }
... but, BUT, to stay in the subject & provide a more " tangible" answer, I'd say it is the things we each of us love to use, whatever they might be.
Tea cups, lps, plants, cushions & blankets... or even for those who repair & renovate on their own, the results of their accomplishments.
Warmest of regards all the way & filakia. Thanks for the give away once more!
Good luck to everyone!
Iro
p.s: just read Verena's comment above and couldn't help but agreeing with so many of the points she shares... just smiled a bit when I read the word order ; )
I truly love to be surrounded by a clean, ordered environment { of course also behind the cabinets doors, as much as cellars if there are any }
I appreciate tranquility & internal peace. I find, it is the way that Joy & adventures can find their way into life...
I find it impossible to be free to life's opportunities & the chances to learn & to grow when surrounded by too many things, or not able to organize things.
So, in all their occasional imperfection, there are a lot of people who manage to, choose & enjoy living clutter free, organised in what are very often magazine like & photography ready spaces throughout their daily lives. From the smallest apartments to the most amazing houses...
It is often hard work, yet one enjoys the process so it somehow no longer feels this way.
An fast allem hängt mein Herz!
