To set things clear: I don't claim to be a trend scout. Most certainly I am not. But this post has evolved through my recent experiences at some home decor trade fairs and my own home. I am talking about houses, to be precise: little, decorative houses. I've been seeing them everywhere recently and I myself fell for them, so let me presume it is a home decor trend.
Those tiny little houses come in various shapes, colours, materials. Sometimes they have a practical function such as a shelf, sometimes (more often) they are merely decorative. Placed alone or grouped into little villages, this home decor elements seem to evoke some daydreaming in us. We imagine those little villages where life is quite and happy. We shuffle and reorganise them thus creating new vignettes and new imagery villages.
As for me, I have a beautiful little white ceramic house with stenciled windows that serves as a tealight holder and glows from within like a warm and cosy home (see it HERE). And a little ceramic house hangs as a bell above my bed. I got this in Paris and it is made by the fabulous 'Le Petit Atelier de Paris'.
What do you think of those little decorative houses? Would you put one on your sidetable, windowsill, shelf?
Happy Thursday!

No, you are right, this is definitely a trend.
ReplyDeleteI saw them couple of times too. I thought of diy-ing some for my windowsill. This is the best place to display them. You can make a whole street. :)
Great idea, Ana! I am looking for simple ceramic ones too for my windowsill:-)
DeleteI don't own a little house like that yet, but have seen them a lot, too - they look so calm, cozy and safe. I think it's a trend that goes hand in hand with the growing need to have our little cozy place where we feel truly at home in our fast and hectic lifes.
ReplyDeleteExactly, that's what I think too, Lena!!
Deleteso cute...and le petit atelier...be still my heart!
ReplyDeleteThose little houses, particularly the wooden ones, are adorable. Not sure if you've seen these stoneware houses by Rowena Brown - http://www.rowboatlondon.co.uk. I think you'd like them. G

i LOVE these! so sweet.
ReplyDeletei have a hard time with 'trinkets' as i don't like clutter, and little houses tend to fall under this category. however, i love the trend now of them being functional too - shelves, planters, banks, etc. THAT's something i can get into!
thanks for sharing!

Just today I thought about sewing some sweet house cushions. I saw them on a blog and fall in love with them. These little houses are wonderful decoration for home, not only for the small ones of us !
ReplyDeleteAlso thanks from myself for sharing Igor.

Oh yes! I love them too, so much so that I made my own, http://www.thishomesweethome.com/2013/02/a-little-weekend-diy-links.html (with some help from my Daddy :-) )

Since a move in 1998, have been cutting lots of interesting things (words, textures, etc) out of magazines before recycling them. I have about a dozen overflowing file boxes all arranged by color families. So of course NOW I want to make some of the little buildings out of heavy cardboard and decorate them with some of my "found paper" (collage style).
ReplyDeleteThese are very cute, maybe not quite my thing:-) but can see their 'cheer up factor'.

ReplyDeleteHI Igor, great observation, little decorative houses are definitely trendy now, they seem to be embedded in the Scandi culture and their home styling. If you ever wonder where to get them, here they are: http://www.atnumber67.co.uk/en/k/wooden-houses
